SS-31, also known as elamipretide (formerly MTP-131 or Bendavia), is a synthetic, mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide with the sequence D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂. It is distinguished by its ability to selectively accumulate in the inner mitochondrial membrane and bind with high affinity to cardiolipin, a phospholipid essential for maintaining mitochondrial structure and function.
